By the end of their training delegates should be able to

  • know the 5 key principles of the MCA
  • understand the “two stage test” for capacity and the concept of “best interests” decision making
  • be aware of the importance of record keeping issues relating to the MCA
  • understand the need to act lawfully regarding care and treatment
  • be aware of the need for protection of services/staff
  • know of the implications for adult protection  
  • understand the concept of new criminal offences of ill-treatment or wilful neglect
  • implement these principles in their daily work
  • be aware of Deprivation of Liberties
